Impromptu Speech Contest: 2017
(Date: June 5st 3:00-5:00pm at N202-Entry deadline June 3 th 12:00pm)
This is mainly for the 3rd year Oral Training class time; so could each 3rd year teacher please choose 3 contestants from their Oral Training Class to take part.
But other students in our department are also welcome to join the contest, if they wish to do so. Welcome to try if you like; please spread the word.
As the name suggests this all about being impromptu, so students will not be given a lot of preparation time (possibly 3-4 minutes only) to organize their speeches.
The rules are quite simple and have been adapted from national competitions to make things slightly less stressful for our students, most of whom have not been coached in this style of public speaking.
Impromptu Speech Rules:
1) Each student will try to speak for about 2 minutes.
2) There will be three bells. The first will be at 1 minute 30 seconds: the minimum time limit. The second at 2 minutes and the third at 2minutes 30 seconds: the maximum time limit.
3) If students speak less than 1 minute 30 seconds or more than 2 minute 30 seconds points will be deducted from their overall score.
4) The students will be called up 2 contestants in advance of giving their speech to receive their speech topic.
Prize money: NT$2000 for the 1st , NT$1500 for 2nd and NT$1000 for 3rd places; even if you don’t win, don’t worry! You will be given a certificate of competition attendance.
