1. Organizer:

2. The Purpose of the Contest:
The purpose of this contest is to promote AE students’ English proficiency and coordination with their partners and slides. It helps students develop their experience of teamwork, and of using visuals to support presentations.
3. Participants:
We invite 2nd- and 3rd-year students to form teams of 2 to 3 persons to participate in this contest. Due to time limit, 2nd and 3rd-year groups will enter not more than 15 teams. So the birds catch the worm!
4. Time and Place:
09:00-12:00, Friday, 26th May 2017, at T0111
5. Registration:
Registration will be opened on 2nd May 2017. Please fill in the registration form at the AED office. The registration form can be downloaded from the AED website. Registration deadline is 22th of May .
6. Topics:
Contestants will choose one of the following 6 topics:
(1) Driverless cars in Taiwan
(2) Alternative energy use in Taiwan
(3) Smart phones and young children
(4) What is a black hole?
(5) Searching for UFOs
(6) Attitudes to mental health
7. Procedure:
(1) Participants will hand in their script and slides by Monday, 22nd May 2017.
3. Contestants will adhere to a 6 minute time limit: 2 points will be deducted
for every 30 seconds over 7 minutes, or every 30 seconds under 5 minutes.
4. Judging criteria consist of 3 categories totaling 100 points as follows:
a. organization and content (40%)
b. delivery techniques: eye-contact, voice, manner, and body
language (30%)
c. spoken language, slide language, and grammar (30%)
5. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners will receive prize money and a
certificate of award, while 3 runners up will receive a certificate of award,
and the rest of the contestants, a certificate of participation.
1st prize – NT$ 2000
2nd prize – NT$ 1500
3rd prize – NT$ 1000
